Your Eligibility
Eligibility about you includes:
- Full UK Driving Licence (held for 12 months+)
- Aged 26 – 70
- Resident in UK Mainland
(Not Northern Ireland) - Can have made a recent insurance claim
- We consider drivers with up to 3 penalty points in the last 5 years
Van Eligibility
Key eligibility criteria include:
- Registered in UK
- Your van or someone else’s
- Has an MOT (unless driving to a pre-booked MOT appointment)
- £1,000 to £40,000 in value
- Van; Pick-up truck; Box van; Luton van; Refrigerated/Insulated van; Motor caravan;
- Is not SORN (unless to drive to a pre-booked MOT only) SORN stands for Statutary Off Road Notification. If your car is SORN it cannot be parked or driven on a public road. Read more
- Not imported, left hand drive, or modified
(except if modified for mobility reasons) - Not a hire or rental vehicle

Documents
Please have your certificate of motor insurance on hand when driving. The police use MID (Motor Insurance Database), a central record of all insured vehicles, to check that vehicles are insured and this is only updated once a day.

Can I use the insured van for business?

Yes, but only for carriage of your own goods (such as a plumber transporting their own tools). There is no cover for courier or carriage of other people’s property.
To be covered for carriage of own goods, you must select this option in the quote journey.
All short term van insurance policies automatically include cover for social, domestic and pleasure use and commuting (up to 4 hours a day).
How much will the excess on my van be?

The standard excess on the short-term (up to 28 days) van insurance policies we sell is £500.
If you are aged 24 or under then there is an additional excess of £200.
If you are insuring a refrigerated vehicle then there is an additional excess of £100.
Your excess will be shown as part of your online quote. If you purchase an insurance policy from us, your excess will be shown on your Policy Schedule (which we will email to you when you have completed your purchase).
Can I get cover to drive a van that does not belong to me?

Yes, the short-term (up to 28 days) van insurance policies we sell can insure you to drive any commercial vehicle that meets the eligibility criteria, whether or not it is a vehicle that you own/are the registered keeper of.
You must have the permission of the owner/registered keeper to drive the vehicle.
Note: we cannot insure a rental/hire vehicle.
